Abstract: This paper enquires the effect of remittances on India’s gross domestic savings using ARDL model. The results show that remittances have a significant negative effect on gross domestic savings. This contradicts the studies that show positive relationship between remittances and gross domestic savings. The paper also finds that income has a positive impact whereas interest rate, exchange rate and inflation have negative impact on savings both in the short-run and in the long-run.
