Abstract: The application of the principles of social constructivism for learning has become very popular during the last decades for teaching mathematics. In this article the process of teaching mathematics on the basis of those principles is represented by an absorbing Markov chain introduced on its steps. Interesting conclusions are produced through this representation and a measure is obtained for the effectiveness of teaching procedure. An example for teaching the derivative to fresher university students is also presented illustrating our results.
